RUNNERS SHINE AT YALE

Three Long Island athletes won individual events at the High School portion of the Yale Track Classic in New Haven.
Brian Dalpiat of Sayville won the 3,000 meters in 8:45:77. Keldon Walker of Bay Shore won the 800-meters in 1:59:20 and Fillippe Francis of Westbury took the 55-meter high hurdles in 7.58, an improvement over his 7.1 he turned in during the semi-finals.
"I didn’t get out that good," Francis said.
In addition to the three winners, Chaminade’s Chris Jacques cleared 6-4 for third place in the high jump.

CARROLL TO COMPETE AT 94TH MILLROSE

Mark Carroll captured the 3,000 meter run of the Millrose Games three times from 1996 to 1998. In 1999 he finished runner-up in the same event. He went down to the Wanamaker Mile in 2000 and won that race also. He had a good year, winning the European Indoor 3,000 and Athens 3,000-meters. However last summer he lacked concentration and had a very disappointing time in the Olympics and he had to watch the finals from the stands.
Now he is set to go in the 76th Wanamaker Mile Friday evening Feb.2at the 94th Millrose Games. He will face a strong field in trying to defend his title, something that nobody was able to accomplish since Marcus O’Sullivan won three straight times from 1988 to 1990. Kenyons Labon Rotich, winner of the event in 1998, and Bernard Lagat, Kevin Sullivan, Dan Zegeye, Jason Pyrah, James Nolan last year’s runnerup, Mike Stember and Seneca Lassiter round out the field. "We have one of the strongest and deepest fields since the time of Eamonn Coghlan and O’Sullivan," Meet Director Howard Schmertz said. "I’m looking forward to a great Wanamaker Mile. All of our runners are very strong."
