O’NEILL NAMED HOCKEY CAPTAIN
Sean O’Neill has been named captain of the Long Beach High School Ice Hockey Team by
Coach Joe Brand.
The senior defenseman scored seven goals and added 26 assists last year.
Brand has played on the team since his freshman year at the school.
“I think I deserved him” captain.” he said. It means that I have to be a leader. Since it will be
my first time in this kind of position it’ll be rough.”
O’Neill has been at this sport since the third grade when he played ice and roller hockey. He was
also into other sports such as swimming, baseball and football, but he didn’t survive at them.
In addition to playing hockey, O’Neill works at Zamboni’s about four hours a day Monday
through Friday and whenever the team doesn’t have games.
He and his teammates are looking forward to the season.
"We have a good young team that is definitely capable of winning the County championship, an
optimistic Brand said. “Last year we lost in the finals by one goal. We’re returning more players
than any other team who made the playoffs. I like our chances this
year plus we are a lot hungrier than we were last year.’~ All home, games
are played at the Long Beach Ice Skating Rink starting 5:15 p.m.
Tuesdays.
